Goal of Project

The goal of the project is to identify and structure a set of terminology that will be used to categorize the information and products of the US Geological Survey for their Gateway to the Earth. This will be done iteratively through drafts of the terminology that will evolve through coordination with the USGS Gateway to the Earth Standardized Lexicon and Tagging Team (chaired by Karen Kaye) and key agency personnel. The vocabulary selected for the terminology set will be based on the use of terminology within USGS and on closely related projects of other government agencies and information services. The goal is to implement a high-level set of categories that will interface easily with the existing category structures currently in use within the USGS.

All thesaurus worked linked to this site are preliminary drafts unless specifically labeled otherwise.

You may contact any member of the Lexicon and Tagging Team (above) with comments and questions.
